TaoTronics TT-DS011 1050 DPI 1.44 TFT Color Display hand held Scanner USB recharging, Lithium battery powered, 1050 DPI, That is a virtual dream come true. I can think of a couple of times a copy was absolutely imperitive, the only thing to do was break and go find a copy shop. Not the easiest solution given location, distance to next civilisation and return time. Not a very good solution. You could pack a high resolution flatbed scanner and a laptop to control it, but that in itself is almost as bad. The savings from just one of those emergency needs for a scanner would more than pay for a Device. This device is compact and efficient, simple to use and simple to maintain. The acquisition of this device was solely tailored by the situation of a need to make a 1200 mile round trip safari to far side of the middle of nowhere to copy for posterity historic documents that by all likelyhood will become unavailable soon. Most frustrating to think something like a family bible that has 40 pages of pedigree that has been recorded by several generations over 200 some odd years will end up in a landfill because the current generation does not care for that old foagie stuff. 300 year old grants, disintigrating on their own merit. Revolutionary war records going into the trash. Makes me cringe. Simpler uses, and OCR scan to keep from typing in a transcription of a mineral abstract. Or recipe. Problems solved with a wave of the hand. MDL#: TT-DS011 ASIN: B00JZL8KSO URL: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JZL8KSO

Technology keeps getting better and better. This product was sent to me for an unbiased review. Wow, I love this scanner, it may be a little pricey, but its use is fantastic. I have a scanner for my printer, but transferring the images to my pc is quite difficult. With the Taotronics high quality document scanner, I can scan a variety of invoices for later use, before they fade. My family right now is currently transferring their family recipes to be stored online to be safe, as well as ease of sharing our fruit cake recipe for Christmas! The design is very minimal, and even the elders could easily, after me setting it up, with a click of a button, get it running. It uses 2 AA batteries, so I do not have a concern of ever having to charge it. If you do not want to take out your micro sd card, there is a cable for it so that you can connect it to your computer. Just make sure you turn the scanner on, so it can connect. The scans are fantastic. I have tried scanning my computer on the side, and it worked for the most part, if you can get it done smoothly. So it is kind of jagged, but it's not even made for scanning the side of boxes! I have attached some pictures on Amazon. It comes with a nice cloth case, so you won't damage the scanner's cameras. Overall, I recommend this to anyone, who is keeping documents in their online storage, work with receipts, or love sharing their recipes!

TaoTronics TT-DS001 Handheld Scanner 900DPI Color & Mono Handyscan For Document, Photo, Receipts, Books + JPG / PDF Format Selection (Micro SD Card, 2ea AA batteries required but not included). This is perfectly adequate for any small priority job. I would prefer to enter the 21st century with a USB recharging lithium device rather than being tied to AA batteries like a 1998 digital camera. For a high priority job like very old and fragile photographs you will still want a 2400 DPI or better flatbed scanner. But for those simple emergency items you might run across while in the field this is a handy lightweight hardcopy to JPG tool. It would be far better to be 100 miles from nowhere and have and not need it than to need it and not have it. The scanners jPG photo is far superior to a copy made from a coin operated copy machine that was serviced sometime this decade. I found the initial setup of this devise a bit complicated. I had to go up to the Mall for a package of AA batteries, and an SD card. Having finally secured these three items it was then a breeze. Pop in the batteries, set the whie ballance with the narrow piece of white balance example paper supplied in the shipping box. It has the steps to get to the balance adjusting mode printed on it. I would have set the time and date at that point but I am out of paper clips. The first scan was very simple. 1. Turn it on 2. Toggle the resolution to Medium 3. Set out the item to scan. 4. tap the power/scan button, green light says go. 5. Roll across target surface. 6. tap the Power/Scan button again to toggle the green scanning light off. 7. Plug USB2-mini into scanner 8. Open folder to View files. 9. Navigate to saved JPG file. (Move, copy, delete, as needed) OR if using SD card reader (save battery time in the field). 7b. press and hold power button until device is in power off state. 8b. pull SD card and insert into reader. 9b. insert reader in desktop USB slot to access the scanned object picture. 10b. Open folder to View files. 11b. Navigate to saved JPG file. (Move, copy, delete, as needed) So, as you see the preperation of device for startup most difficult part was a saturday trip to the mall. God what a nightmare. Park on the end of the lot, ride a tram to the building, the first two conveniently located stores were sold out of AA and SD cards with a capacity under 16GB. Fortunately the little camera shop on the upper level Rotunda had not been gutted yet. OCR= Optical Character Recognition software. This is used to scan a page to a text file. The OCR included with the TaoTronics TT-DS001 is. ABBYY ver.10. If you want to be up to date I am sure you can buy ABBYY version 12 at your convenience. This software is used if you wish to scan to a text file, or PDF, Word, etc. Up to 900 DPI Resolution. OCR Software can help to edit your scanned document easily. It is possible to take it with you due to its portable and convenient features. Package contents: TaoTronics TT-DS001 Scanner, Cloth, USB cable, CD, Manual, bag, 1 year TaoTronics warranty. I recently found myself out in the wild needing to copy the scrawled entries on the leaves of a 200 year old family bible that will only see the light of day for a birth or a death. I seriously wish I had one of these in the travel bag. Not perfect or even excellent, it would have been far better than trying to make phone snapshots with bad lighting.

I had never tried a handheld scanner like this and did not really know what to expect. I've used many printer-based scanners as well as mobile apps to take a picture of a document and then have the software convert it to a scan. In the box are instructions (well written and useful), the handheld scanner, a mini USB cord, a mini CD, and a sleeve to store and protect the scanner. The sleeve is a nice and unexpected touch to keep it clean and free of dust. It takes 2 AA batteries and you also need to insert a microSD card. I used a 32 GB Sandisk. I did not have to install anything on my PC for this to work even though i transfer scanned documents via the USB cable. The PC recognized it basically as a storage device and I was able to simply drag and drop the file onto my PC hard drive. You do need to calibrate the device and format the card. The instructions are very simple for doing this and completely spelled out in the instructions. Once I did that I was very quickly able to start scanning. It does scan in color or just black text on white paper. You can switch between a jpg and pdf format for the scanned documents. You can also choose the DPI (low, medium or high). I wasn't really sure how well it would slide across a piece of paper that you are scanning. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it did. It easily slides over paper due to it's 4 rubber "wheels" on the bottom. You don't really have to worry about it rolling straight. It rolled straight without any real effort by me so my scan was nice a clean. Another nice touch is guides for the standard 8.5" paper width on the side of the scanner so you can easily see how to line it up for a good scan. The text that I scanned was crisp and easy to read. I scanned an inkjet printed document and a printed postcard. They came out legible, if a little grainy. As such, if you are wanting to scan photos into a computer this is probably not the best device for that. However, it does a fully adequate job at scanning documents that you just need to be able to reference and review later. One might question why use this versus a mobile phone to "scan" a document. One that would be security. If you don't have the money or space required for a full-size flat bed or printer based scanner but need more security where you aren't scanning documents into a mobile device that could be hacked or accidentally shared, this device would be a great fit. It is small and portable. I can see it being beneficial for a business on the go. You could very easily bring this scanner with you to scan checks, signatures or other documents while in the field and away from a desk working. This is another useful and feature-filled product by Taotronics.

The TaoTronics TT-DS001 scanner is a wand scanner that you roll over documents in order to scan. A computer is not required to scan documents, making this scanner truly portable. All the software functions for the scanner are built-in to the scanner itself, such as document format, DPI setting, etc. The scanner is straightforward to use and the menu options are easy to navigate. The scanner does require 2 AA batteries as well as a micro SD card to operate. This scanner does not have a built-in rechargeable battery. The scanner also does not have any built-in memory. The documentation states it can use up to a 32 GB micro SD card, I used an 8 GB SanDisk card myself. The scanner comes with a protective sleeve, OCR software CD, manual, USB cable and felt cleaning cloth. The scanner is plug and play, when the scanner was plugged into the computer the driver was automatically installed. You can transfer the scanned documents to your computer by plugging the scanner into a USB port on your computer or removing the micro SD card from the scanner and using a card reader with your computer. Summary: - Multiple Scan Option formats: JPG or PDF - Multiple DPI Settings: 300 DPI, 600 DPI or 900 DPI - Portable, computer is not necessary in order to scan - Optional docking station that can be purchased separately that will enable feeding of documents Overall, this is a great portable scanner. It does take some getting use like running the scanner across a document and not going over the document to fast and causing an error. Since it is a wand scanner there is a lot of flexibility in scanning documents that would be an issue with a traditional flatbed scanner. I received this item for review purposes.

The questions and answers below were created by Amazon customers, who are not affiliated or in any way officially connected with Taotronics. Please follow their advice at your own discretion.
1.how to use Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: The device is super simple to use: 1-Insert 2 new alkaline AA batteries. 2-On your computer format a micro SD card to erase anything that's in it (You don't have to reformat it, but is better to dedicate one micro SD just to the scanner).3-Turn On the scanner. 4- Choose scanning mode: JPEG or PDF (Jpeg for photos, pdf for documents). 5-Scan at your heart's desire. Remember to go steady and try again if does not scan all the way through. With practice you'll get better. To view or xfer files just plug the USB cord provided into your computer and use your favorite Photo or PDF software to edit or do whatever. You don't need to remove your Micro Sd card to view content. You can also view it on your TV, BD player, Tablet or anything that support USB connection. Hope this help, It's so simple that I wrote all this from memory, but you can always read the included manual. Thanks!
2.All these questions and yet can't find mine! What is the max size micro card it will accept? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: 32GB
3.How quickly does this scan? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: About 6 seconds per page
4.Can this scan 11" x 17" sheets in one run? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: the scan width is 8.5" but it can scan forever. I've used it on big paintings, just running it down the canvas to copy the image. I've done scans 8"x48" this way.
5.What are the differneces between TT-DS001 & TT-DS003? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: It's very difficult to say what the actual differences are, but you can click on either the 001, 003, or 004 and look at the Product Details below. But I can't say whether there are significant differences in the scanner itself. The 003 and 004 have extra things included, but whether that is worth the extra money is hard to determine, and is up to you to decide. Good luck. In my case, all I needed to do was to scan black and white documents for tax purposes, and the 001 worked surprisingly well for that.
6.Does this work with a PC to do filing? Is their a file program or do you need to enter in and sort the receipts etc? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: This is simply a scanner - definitely not the Neat filing system that's advertised a lot. I got it on the recommendation of a genealogy buff but haven't used it enough to get reliable results. I need to get the friend to give me some pointers.
7.I bought Tao Trornics Document scanner which has only 10 millimeter opening for the micro SD card. Tell me where to buy and how to install this card. Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: I purchased and use a Kingston micro SD card with an adapter to fit the standard card slot. The one I have is a SDC4/16GB sold with the adapter. I am sure you can purchase it from Amazon.com.
8.What operating system is required? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: Mac OS 10.4 or above and Windows 7 / Vista / XP. (direct plug-in, driver installation not required)
9.Does this work w/ a Mac? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: Yes, works on mac. This works independently of a computer. And if you connect via usb with one, it works like a pendrive
10.Will this work with my Apple? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: Do not know. Never was able to get it to work with my PC.
