This is my first Virtual Reality (VR) headset. When I saw video of people who move the hands up and down in games or the excitement in their faces while watching movie, I want to know what they were watching behind those huge goggles. I already have a 3D television and the results are stunning when compared with normal TVs. VR technology is supposed to offer much more. To start off VR is 3D. But there is much more: VR is designed to submerge the user in a setting where he can see, move and interact no different than “reallife”. Sound great. However, how to get ER can be confusing. My understanding from non-technical perspectives, is that there are two main different technologies of displaying VRs. (1) Smartphone. This is relatively easy to set up. The smartphone is inserted into a headset and make use of the phone to project the images to the eyes. Softwares are used to separate the screen into two images for your eyes, turning your smartphone into a VR device. Because the phone is used as the medium, resolution, processing power and size all matter in getting the optimum experience. Prices of this categories can range between to $20 to $120. (2) The more complicated technologies, commonly known as “tethered” headsets use dedicated display in the headset instead of your smartphone. There are also built-in motion sensors and an external camera tracker, that improves both image quality and experience to the player. Most of these interface with either XBox or PS4, while there are upcoming ones that connect to the PC. The VR experience offers here is much better. Prices: $300-$800. The “tethered” headsets are better but I am not ready to pay that much. I want to experience the cheaper cost options first. Of the $20 to $40 ranges, all of them are “smartphone” technologies, I decide to get this TaoTronics 3D VR Headset. Reasons: 1. Specifications of the product in this price range are similar 2. The cost is only $23 and even if I do not like it I do not lose much. 3. I have used other Taotronic products before and all of them offer good value for money. After two weeks with the product I am more than happy with my decision. It is light and sturdy, built with good quality material. The eye pieces are nicely cushioned and have two openings on each side for heat dissipation. These openings are also designed for headphone and possible power cord connection. The straps fit tightly on the head but not with too much pressure that causes strains. More important to me is the option to adjust the focus independently for each eyes. The headset is designed for people not wearing glasses. I am short-sighted with variation of 300 degrees between two eyes. The knobs offer sharp images without glasses. Even for those without glasses, these knobs are important for focus because the smartphone screen is just inches in front of the eyes. The are another two sliders to adjust the horizontal positions of the two eye pieces. This is to account the size of the phone as well as the differences in Pupillary distance, PD - distance between pupils of the two eyes. My experience of using this headset is astonishing. Once I slide in the phone, which is just a clip and have the apps started, I can totally emerged in the game setting. It just feel like you are in another world. There are lot of VR softwares freely available and the one that I like best is Fulldive VR - Virtual Reality (Android market).

High Quality Virtual Reality Headset! I love this headset. I was very happily surprised with the build quality, comfort, stylish look, and customization. Firstly, the build quality was very impressive in many respects. The entire headset feels very solid and premium. The phone holder has plenty of support to safely hold my phone without the worry of it breaking; this is where many other VR headsets fail in comparison. Secondly, the comfort of the headset left me speechless, for the price I was not expecting such comfort. The headset came equip with very soft, breathable, and durable foam on all face-contact points. The headband also pleasantly surprised me; it was fully customizable and was so comfortable that I had forgotten that it was even there. Thirdly, the stylish look of this headset brings to mind high quality, probably because of how amazing it really looks. Lastly, the vast amount of customization truly impressed me. Everything is customizable, the headband, the phone holder, the distance between the lens, and even the lens zoom. Because of all the customization available, it is easy to make this headset completely yours, but it is also easy to share it with others too. I was also able to use four different phones, of drastically different sizes very easily and without problem. I did have a few concerns before I received the product, but I found that most if not all of my concerns didn’t pose any problems. My main concern was if I could wear my glasses while using the headset. I was very happy to see that wearing my glasses caused zero problems with the comfort, visibility, or any other prior concerns I had had. The Pro’s: - They kept their customers In mind with this one. - carrying case - Very Comfortable - Fully Customizable - Great Build Quality - Stylish Look - Comes with QR Code - Great Price - Great Customer Support - Easy To Use - Holds Phone Securely - Warranty - Lens Cloth - Easy To Read Instruction Manual - Much More The Con’s: - One Spring Came off of the mechanism - It is a little difficult to figure out the spring phone holder, but once I understood it there were no problems. Any other problems can be easily resolved by contacting the company, which is very helpful, and always listens to suggestions. Plus any problems that may arise can be easily solved with the included warranty. I was very impressed with this product.

This headset is fantastic for the price. Works great with my Honor 8 phone. Just the right mix of size and resolution. Your phone has to have a gyroscope. You should use a phone with at least 1080p resolution to minimize the screen door effect. I still see it a bit on my 1080p
This headset is fantastic for the price. Works great with my Honor 8 phone. Just the right mix of size and resolution. Your phone has to have a gyroscope. You should use a phone with at least 1080p resolution to minimize the screen door effect. I still see it a bit on my 1080p phone, but once I get into the VR experience, I tend to tune it out. Comes with a little magnet disk on the side, you flick it to activate the Google Cardboard button. I wish the nose area was a bit bigger, better shaped, or had some sort of cushioning foam. The headset tends to rest on my nose sometimes, pulling me out of the VR experience. The headset is not glasses friendly, but it does correct for nearsightedness up to -7.0 SPH according to the spec sheet. Works great for me, I have about -4.75 SPH on both left and right. 67 PD. So I can adjust the lenses to correct for my nearsightedness, so it works great without my glasses. You can also adjust the lenses side to side to achieve your correct pupillary distance. The straps have velcro, so they are easily adjustable if they are pulling too hard on your face. The foam around the face is good for blocking off external light. The sides of the phone remain accessible to plug in your headphones, or charge the phone, or tether if you want to try Trinus VR. The headset includes the QR code for proper Google Cardboard calibration on the side. So you will not lose it or have a hard time finding it. Oh and the lenses on the inside come with a thin plastic protective film. Be sure to remove the thin plastic, but avoid touching the lenses. Includes a microfiber cloth to cleanup fingerprints on the lenses and phone screen. As well as an extra magnetic slider for the side in case you lose it. And it comes with a cloth bag so you can keep everything together and not lose it. Works great with VR media players, or Google Cardboard VR apps. And the way you put the phone in the device is you take the black part off, there are two clips, one on top, one on the bottom. Inside the black visor part there are two small spring loaded clamps. You stretch out these clamps, carefully so you don't break them, to put your phone inside. Make sure the Google Cardboard line matches up the small notches on the front visor to make sure it is properly center aligned.
