In keeping with the professional quality of all TaoTronics lamps, this one ramps it up an additional level. I was provided a sample in exchange for an honest evaluation, which this is. As with all lamps from this manufacturer, the thoughtfulness starts before you even open the box. The box comes with a comfortable carrying handle, and once opened, everything is neatly organized inside. The lamp requires no assembly, which is great for me, since I always manage to assemble things incorrectly. In addition to the lamp and AC power cord, the manufacturer supplies a cleaning cloth. I'm not exactly sure what purpose this serves, so I'll probably use it to clean my glasses. Once unpacked, all you need to do is to remove the protective plastic from the lamp. Than, you attach the power cord, plug it in, and it's ready to use. It's an extremely versatile lamp, in that it has innumerable swivel capabilities which enable the user to position the light just about anywhere. By anywhere, I mean, up, down, sideways, etc. The lamp swivels on the base, and the head of the lamp swivels on the extension pole. For storage purposes, the lamp folds up nicely into a very small size. To turn the lamp on, you press the button on the very left side of the base. From there, you can choose from a wide variety of brightness levels. What makes this lamp unique, is that it also gives you the ability to choose from a wide variety of color levels. This comes in handy when you're using the light for a variety of different purposes, such as reading, or doing jewelry work. Adjusting the color is as simple as pressing a button. The brightness level and area of distribution is more than adequate, plus being able to point it anywhere makes it useful for any and all purposes. In addition to the above, the lamp comes with a very handy USB port, so you'll be able to charge your device while the lamp is in use, or even if it's just plugged into an outlet but not being used. This is definitely a very thoughtful and extremely useful feature. Since this is an LED lamp, you'll never have to worry about replacing the bulb. In addition, it runs cool and is extremely energy efficient. The aluminum alloy casing contributes greatly to the ability of the lamp to operate at cool temperatures. The bottom line is that this is an excellent lamp. It can be used for just about any purpose, and is compact enough when folded to bring with you when traveling. Despite it's compact size, it puts out a tremendous amount of light, has a weighted base to prevent it from being knocked over, and has color settings that are very beneficial, depending upon what you're using the light for at the time. I've tried out several of the TaoTronics lamps, and so far I find this one to be the best. I give it my highest recommendation ~ 5 stars!

I've reviewed TaoTronics® lamps before and I've never encountered a bad one. This one is really nice as well. It's a simple, low-profile, stylish lamp that puts out a good amount of light at its highest setting. To use the lamp you don't even have to put anything together, just unfold it. The quality of the materials is also very good. Another sign that this isn't a cheap lamp is that they don't use the crappy Styrofoam that crumbles and leaves little pieces of itself around, clinging to stuff. I was happy to see that especially after getting another product that did use that type of Styrofoam. They also include a nice microfiber cloth, probably so you can wipe it clean and remove any fingerprints that might get on it. There are many ways to position this lamp... even the top of the lamp can be rotated/swiveled 135 degrees. It has 7 brightness settings and one button to switch among 5 color temperature settings, from a whiter light to a warmer/redder/yellower light. The controls are touch sensitive and to control the brightness you can just tap the level you want, or even "cooler" you can slide your finger across the brightness controls. One thing I did find a bit confusing is that some of the levels have two LED lights making you think the lamp has more levels that it does (it only has 7 but has 12 LED indicators/notches on the brightness control). The quality of the light is very good and it doesn't flicker. Since it's LED it doesn't use a lot of power. One thing I didn't like that much is that while the lamp will remember your color temperature setting between cycles, it does not remember the brightness setting. When you turn it on it goes to the middle setting. I would prefer it go to the brightness level it had when it was last on so minus 1/2 a star for that. Overall 4.5 stars. NOTE: I was sent a free product sample for review. I was not paid or told what to write.
  • An Excellent LED Lamp - and a Funny Story About It.

For many years we have owned a desk lamp which we keep on a shelf in back of our bed for reading, etc. It's an older lamp and uses an elongated 60 W incandescent bulb. Our granddaughter likes to have bedtime stories read to her in our bed and recently my wife has been complaining that the lamp gets too hot which makes using it uncomfortable. She asked me to find another, cooler, lamp. After much investigation, I chose this LED Desk Lamp, TaoTronics Table Lamp Eye-caring LED Lamp (12W, Dimmable, Touch Control, 5 Color Modes, USB Charging Port) which has gotten very favorable reviews here on Amazon. It arrived two days ago and is everything for which we could have wished. Unlike many people who have reviewed this lamp, we did NOT get it as a free sample. I bought and paid for it myself. (I wouldn't turn down a free one however!) I removed it from its box, removed the plastic protection, and inserted its plug into a socket. An orange light appeared and it was evident to me that it was the on/off switch (I hadn't yet read the instructions). I tapped the switch and the light was activated. The orange 'switch' turned blue and all of the blue indicators lit up and then settled down to about half-way. Tapping the level or sliding your finger across these blue indicators adjusts the brightness. Tapping the indicator immediately above the blue indicators changes the color temperature. The lamp can display full 'blue' color (6000 K) all the way down to 'incandescent' simulation (2700 K) thus satisfying almost anyone's preference. The specifications state that the lamp's light output is 410 lm and I can tell you that that is plenty bright. To turn off the lamp one merely presses and holds, for two seconds, the power 'switch.' I do not like to leave 'wall-wart' power supplies plugged in with the transformer constantly drawing power, regardless of how slight ('standby' power also known as 'vampire' power) so I plugged the lamp into one of these GE 52149 Handy Switch Grounded White which allows the power to be turned on and off easily. Now I have to tell you a funny story. Our granddaughter was visiting us (the day before Thanksgiving) when the package arrived and I set up the lamp. After I had tried the lamp and had turned it off, my wife and granddaughter came into our bedroom. I showed the lamp to my wife and she expressed great pleasure with its appearance and how well it blended in with our furniture (which is white). I suggested that she turn it on. She stared at it but she had absolutely no idea what to do. She tried touching several points on the lamp but not the right one. At that point she asked in frustration, "What do I do?" So I said to our granddaughter, "Would you please show your grandmother how to operate this lamp?" Now she had never, ever, seen any such lamp. She looked at it for perhaps five seconds and turned it on. Then she adjusted the brightness and she even adjusted the color temperature without batting an eyelash! She is eight years old. She then turned to my wife and said, in all innocence, "Grandma, you HAVE to get 'with' the new technology!" We're still laughing at that one! By the way, this is the same eight year old for whom we recently bought a FUJIFILM Digital Camera XF1 x4 Optical zoom Black F FX-XF1B and she has had no trouble with that either (and you ought to see the pictures she has been taking with it!). Anyway, it should be obvious that we are very pleased with this lamp and I can highly recommend it. Thank you for reading this and for considering my opinions. Lawrence H. Bulk

Officially the coolest desk lamp I’ve ever purchased. I spend A LOT of time at my desk drawing and doing computer graphics and finding a good light source that doesn’t either get in the way or blind me has been a challenge. I work on a 27” iMac and this lamp has a very “Apple” look so aesthetically it fits my set up perfectly. I thought at first the power cord was going to be too short to reach my outlet, but it works fine. The ability to change brightness intensity and light temperature is worth this lamp alone. Even if I’m not using it to directly light my work surface, I turn it on, angle outward for ambient lighting around my work area. The base plate has an acceptable footprint on my desk (7” diameter) but I put my tablet stylus holder on it, so it’s still somewhat usable real estate. You can’t beat this light for the price. I love it.

I am SO glad I ordered this lamp, I have age-related macular degeneration, and this multi-faceted light is so helpful. It has no switches or knobs to turn or push, and a simple finger touch turns the lamp on. A second finger touch adjusts the brightness to one of the 10 possible settings. A simple touch also controls the different colors of light, which I find extremely helpful. I like the clean, uncluttered look of the light, and the 2 "hinges," which allow me to bring the light up or down. The fact that I can plug my I-phone into it, is just a bonus.

** Amazon Customer Questions & Answers **
The questions and answers below were created by Amazon customers, who are not affiliated or in any way officially connected with Taotronics. Please follow their advice at your own discretion.
1.I'm unclear on what the slider does. Does it control color temperature, dimming, or both? (Color temp isn't a good "dimmer".) Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: The slider controls the dimming. There is a small button above the slider that controls the color temperature.
2.Is the bulb included? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: Yes. It's included and everything is ready to go.
3.is this product includes free-voltage(100v~240v) AC adaptor? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: Yes. The transformer face reads "Input: 100-240V~50/60Hz 0.5A"
4.What is length of the horizontal lamp arm? Hoping it will reach over the center of average size desk, if base is placed at edge of desk. Hope that mak Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: I think this lamp would be perfect, for an average size desk. The horizontal arm is approx. 12.5" in length, plus the upright post also can be adjusted as well. I am using it set at a 45 degree angle which gives it a 21" length when measured from the center of the upright post. And the horizontal arm can be pivoted left and right to aim the light even more.
5.What type/model number of bulb? Are they easily obtainable, or are they special-order? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: this lamp does not have a bulb its a LED. the LED should last 50,000 hours a very long time. I figure if it burns out I will buy another one in ten years. it is a very nice lamp. I liked it so much I purchased another one.
6.Is there a way to turn this light off other than unplugging? touching on the power button does not turn it off. Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: Lightly press and hold the red (power) button. The light will turn itself off.
7.Is it worth buying? Like I see all the hype about it I'm just asking if its really worth buying or useful for productivity like doing homework maybe? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: That's a tough question, whether it's worthy or not. I think it would definitely work for homework. It doesn't get spotlight bright, but it lights up papers I have on a stand next to my computer. I think its best "quality" is that it doesn't get hot. So if you're in a room prone to getting stuffy, this won't add any heat to the equation, which can be beneficial. I think a light with a "gooseneck" that can be bent to exactly how you want it would be a bit more helpful. I'd say $30 would be the "right" price for this lamp, but that's a gut feeling. I'm very curious to see if the $25-$30 competition is just as good. Maybe try one of those, and if it's not bright enough, return it and get this one? Hope that helps a little.
8.How does the color temperature change? do individual leds get turned on or off as you change the color temperature? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: Yes, the color temperature changes from a bright white to a calm pale yellow. The individual lights do not seem to turn on or off with the color temperature change. Light strength remains even.
9.how many lumens is the maximum output and what amperage it the charger? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: 410 lumens; 12W
10.What is the diameter of the base? Customers are chatting about this View conversation
A: 7 inches.
