What is Labor Day?
Also known as International Workers Day, labor day is a worldwide celebration of the economic and social achievements of employees everywhere. Originating in the late 1800s, the holiday was widely adopted to celebrate employee rights (such as mandating an 8 hour work day and a two day weekend).
Interestingly, the US led the way for labor day celebrations, even though labor day is celebrated on a different date in the US and Canada than in the rest of the world.

When does labor day fall?
Labor day is May 1st in many countries around the world, including Russia, China, and most of Europe.
The US and Canada celebrate it on a different day that is significant to them–September 6th, the day designated by US Congress as the official day celebrating the economic and social achievements of workers. Don’t worry, there will be TaoTronics deals for people who celebrate then, as well!
What other holidays are around labor day?
May Day is a holiday around the world. In some places, it is a day off–such as in the UK, where the country gets a ‘bank holiday’ or national holiday on the Monday closest to May 1st. In 2021, this is Monday, 3rd May.
For people in the US, there’s a second holiday in early May that’s exciting. Mother’s day!
